Creativity and New Media - Example
New media, as discussed in my earlier blog post, encourages social interactions and fosters creativity through community and communication. This have proved true in my personal life through a wide range of applications, but predominantly in respect to my business professional account on LinkedIn. As a young student seeking to establish a successful career in finance, networking with other individuals with similar interests, goals and roles at institutions you wish to work with in the future. LinkedIn is a business professional platform that allows you to connect with other professionals in each respective industry and start conversations or review qualifications. This appealed to me and after creating an account and attending networking event, I found tremendous benefit in adding people to my profile so we could discuss topics further or to save as a reference further down the road. This simple act of conversation online through this platform was enabled by new media and mass communication. I feel as though LinkedIn is a community of like-minded individuals looking to help one another out and offer support, whether it be to share similar experiences, offer advice, or to pass along your profile to a more senior person who could aid in answering any questions or sharing experiences. I have had my LinkedIn account for 3 years now and I do believe this has fostered creativity because contacts share their paths to success which allows for an open discussion. You are then able to take a unique approach or ask for advice on where you currently stand. You can also be creative in your posts and messages you share so as to engage with your contacts or update people on your current business endeavors.

Hello Kesham,
ReplyDeleteI think that LinkedIn is a perfect example of how new media is continuously expanding into different areas used by a wide range of industries. Employers turn to new media to aid in attracting and selecting candidates. Employees use them to gain knowledge and learn more about companies. This also allows employers to learn more about a potential candidate without having met them in person. LinkedIn is a social media platform whose purpose is to network and has changed the traditional sense of networking. It is more professional than other platforms and has been very helpful for many seeking to learn more about certain jobs or companies as well as establish connections, I'm glad its been helpful to you!
