Improvement to Baruch College using New Media

If I were a consultant hired by CUNY Baruch College to make improvements to the establishment using new media, the first change that would go into effect would be communications. The hierarchy structure between students, professors, administration, department heads and deans is clearly in need of some serious work.  Emails have grown distant as an effective means of communication and there are new media outlets such as an interactive webpage that allows users to post concerns regarding material offered in each course with a direct link for professors or individuals within a department to respond so as to facilitate a discussion. This would be beneficial to a wider range of students as well since many have similar questions they would like to be answered. Another way new media can be applied to Baruch College would be through testing and examinations. Study groups take up time, are not always as helpful as you'd expect and can prove to be a hassle when preparing for more than one exam. To combat this, online group-sharing / study applications to study such as 'BuddyUp' allow you to find students on a similar level as you and taking the same course and you can formulate groups and study together as you please in the convenience of your own home. There are many applications of new media in our everyday lives that can help us to see the world in more meaningful ways while relieving some of the stress that comes with being a college student.

  1. I like the idea of online group-sharing/study applications for college students. Applications like "BuddyUp" is really a perfect app for individuals who seek partners for sport activities. If this kind of applications were used by college students in order to find a partner to study together who is taking the same courses as they are would benefit not only study partners but also colleges to boost their graduation rates. Nowadays, some students are troubling in the courses they taking. This kind of application would help those individuals to success. Study buddies or partners would help each other to study. Time and money would be saved. Great idea, Kesham!

  2. Hey Kesham! I love your idea with BuddyUp, it would be extremely useful in the case of matchmaking with study groups. Theres been too many cases even in my own experience of classrooms filled with quiet students who like to stick to themselves and prefer working alone. I think this would also solve the issue with what we see on the Facebook Baruch Class of 202x groups, where people always ask around about questions they have for their classes. This would eliminate a lot of downtime and definitely be an incentive to be more productive and cooperative.
